Iran Warns of “Everlasting Consequences” After US Strikes on Nuclear Sites; Europe Urges Calm

The Middle East finds itself on edge after U.S. airstrikes targeted Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites overnight. Iran wasted no time in condemning the attacks, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi labeling them “extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior” and asserting they would have “everlasting consequences.” Tehran firmly declared its right to self-defense.

Across the Atlantic, U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the bombings as a “very successful attack,” issuing a stark warning of “force far greater” if Iran retaliates. The strikes were met with approval from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called Trump’s decision “bold” and history-changing.

In Europe, leaders quickly appealed for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for stability and international law, a sentiment echoed by European Council President AntΓ³nio Costa. The UK’s Keir Starmer and France’s Emmanuel Macron also urged restraint and a return to negotiations.

Despite these calls for calm, Iran’s Araghchi accused both the U.S. and Israel of deliberately undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts. Russia and China joined the chorus of condemnation, calling the U.S. actions a “gross violation of international law.”

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported no increase in off-site radiation and will hold an emergency meeting Monday to address the crisis.
