MPD: Security guard shot at airport area gas station; suspect taken into custody

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man is in critical condition after being shot Tuesday afternoon at a BP gas station located at Lamar Avenue and East Parkway South.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) reported that the shooting call came in at 2:35 p.m. The victim, who suffered critical gunshot wounds, managed to arrive at a nearby fire station before officers reached the scene. He was then transported to Regional One Hospital.

Less than two hours after the incident, a suspect called police and surrendered. MPD confirmed that one individual has been detained in the 1700 block of Livewell Circle, less than a mile from the shooting location. All westbound lanes on Lamar Avenue between East Parkway and Park Avenue, which were previously closed for investigation, have since been reopened.
